Managing Editor, STYLE

South China Morning Post (SCMP) is looking for a Managing Editor to manage the production of content for the STYLE magazine, digital and social media.
STYLE magazine is the city’s best monthly guide to the world of luxury living globally, and at home. A youthful, sophisticated, tasteful collection of in-depth features and insightful stories for those who appreciate intelligent luxury.
STYLE's website is the South China Morning Post's dedicated portal to the world of luxury, the definitive guide to influence and wealth-oriented stories in Asia and around the world building a community of global readers for instant access to the world of modern luxury in Asia.
Purpose of the position:
As the Managing Editor, you will assist the Chief Editor and supervise the publication’s operations and policies, providing guidance and leadership to the editorial team, representing STYLE at social events and building professional connections with luxury brands across categories.
Ideal candidates for this role should also possess strong business acumen and inventiveness to elevate our brand and grow the platform in the region.
In this role, you will:
- Assist Chief Editor in the production of print and online versions of Style
- Supervise a team of editors, writers and reporters, and help manage a team of freelancers from around the world
- Enforce deadlines and oversee production of editorial and advertorial content
- Assign tasks to editors, writers, producers and designers
- Attend events locally and globally to represent Style
- Monitor online performance and make improvements based on analytics to drive traffic to Style
- Write articles on topics such as luxury, watches, jewellery and fashion
- Advise on latest trends and developments in the industry. Introduce best practices and operational improvements for the Editorial Department to meet high quality standards.
- Improve effectiveness, efficiency and fairness in the department’s daily operation and resources allocation
Skills and Experience that will lead to success:
- Minimum 10 years experience working in editorial roles at a senior level, experience in covering watches and jewellery is a plus.
- Thorough knowledge of editorial operations, the publishing business and the various tasks performed by the editorial team.
- Strategic and forward thinking mindset with proven leadership capability and a strong sense of integrity.
- Ability to analyse situations quickly, make decisions when needed, lead content professionals, deal effectively with the public, function well as part of a team and delegate effectively.
- Proficiency in English, Chinese will be a big plus.
Work location will be at Causeway Bay office
