Director, Student Business

Purpose of the position:
We have served youth and education institutions for over 70 years, growing and nurturing communities which promote connectivity and self-expression amongst students. We understand that knowledge and language proficiency is cultivated through continuous immersion and learning, with no short-cuts or quick fixes. That is why SCMP Learn will continue to expand the reach of our student community platforms and enhance the education resources of our offering as we seek to unlock the potential in every student to effect social responsibility and impact as they explore the horizon of possibilities ahead.
In this role, you will:
Excited and fully aligned with the vision and mission of the SCMP Learn business, the lead will supervise a team composed of sales, marketing, channel development, events execution to develop subscription, ads and other services to serve the students (Age 6-18) segment and relevant stakeholders like teachers, parents and school principals through:
- Developing long-term business strategy of the SCMP Learn and owning the P&L of this student business in SCMP
- Defining the value propositions and innovating on the business model and product features of SCMP’s content products (news and learning program) and brands (Young Post, Young Post Spark, and Posties) for students
- Structuring and leading a high-performing business team to achieve the growth of the business and manage the top and bottom lines of the business
- Collaborating closely with Editorial team and product team to achieve the mission
- Building SCMP’s brand and thought leadership in the education sector in Hong Kong
- Identify and develop business opportunities in the education sector in Mainland China; navigate regulatory and market dynamics to unlock growth.
- Building loyal parents, students, educators and teachers communities in the industry
- Oversee all product and marketing materials, ensure copy accuracy, brand voice consistency, and regulatory compliance. Copyediting when needed.
Skills and Experience that will lead to success:
- 10+ years of relevant experience in media, education, edu-tech, technology companies
- A strategic thinker, an excellent communicator, and a thought leader
- Substantial experience leading a multifunctional team and to build products that fit market’s needs
- Substantial experienced in achieving visionary goals
- Substantial experienced in managing various stakeholders and delivering results within tight timeline
- Deep understanding of the Hong Kong education sector and/or the Mainland China education market with industry connections
- You are entrepreneurial and thrive in a high freedom, high responsibility environment
- Digital savvy, data-driven and customer focused
- Passionate about Education Industry and genuinely interested in nurturing next generation
- Fluent in English with strong oral and written communication skills
- Fluency in oral and written Chinese (Cantonese/ Mandarin) is a plus
Work location will be at Causeway Bay office.
