We are not afraid to think differently, embrace new ideas and dream big. We empower ownership and share responsibility. We support each other to achieve and grow. Our goal is simple - to create products that delight readers and advertisers alike.

Purpose of the position:

We are seeking a highly motivated and results-driven Product Manager/Lead Product Manager to join our team. This role is central to driving the strategic execution of product features and optimizations designed to enhance reader loyalty and significantly grow our subscription base across our core platforms (SCMP.com and mobile app).

You will collaborate closely with colleagues in Design, Engineering, Data, Digital Editorial, and Marketing to define and deliver impactful experiences that delight our readers, turning casual visitors into loyal, paying subscribers.

In this role, you will be responsible for:

  • Product strategy & roadmap: Own the product strategy and roadmap for specific areas focused on reader engagement, retention, or subscription conversion.
  • Feature definition & execution: Lead the end-to-end product lifecycle, including ideation, discovery, requirements definition (user stories, acceptance criteria), prioritization, and launch of new features and optimizations.
  • Cross-functional leadership: Work closely with dedicated designers and engineers to translate product requirements into technical specifications and ship high-quality products efficiently.
  • Data-driven decision making: Partner with Data Science, Analytics, and User Research teams to define success metrics, analyze product performance, conduct A/B tests, and use data insights to inform future product decisions and measure success.
  • Go-to-market strategy: Collaborate with Marketing, Design, and Editorial to develop and execute go-to-market strategies for new features, ensuring maximum uptake and impact on loyalty and subscription goals.
  • Stakeholder management: Effectively communicate product plans, updates, and results to stakeholders across the organization, including executive leadership.

Skills and Experience that will lead to success:

  • 3+ years of experience in product management, ideally within a consumer-facing digital product company. Track record of delivering projects to a high quality and on schedule.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, and the ability to articulate complex problems and requirements to diverse audiences (engineers, designers, marketers, executives).
  • Ability to engage in technical discussions with Engineering teams; understanding of web and app technology stacks, and modern software development processes (e.g., Agile/Scrum).
  • Strong fluency with data with proven ability to analyze feature performance, create hypotheses, and conduct rigorous A/B testing.
  • A genuine passion for understanding and solving user problems, coupled with an appreciation for great user experience (UX). Able to articulate tradeoffs between UX, technical performance, impact to business goals, and project delivery and also make recommendations on the best path forward.
  • Demonstrated experience with driving metrics related to user loyalty, subscription conversion and retention would be ideal.
  • Understanding of or keen interest in utilizing AI technologies (machine learning, large language models) to build highly personalized products is a plus.
