Purpose of the Position:

The Senior Manager will join a team of entrepreneurial and tightly-knit event professionals who bring SCMP’s award-winning journalism to life. Through a robust calendar of in-person, virtual and hybrid events, the successful candidate will play a critical role in the SCMP Live team leading the operations function. He or she will be mainly responsible for:

  1. Planning and execution of events; a key lead role on event day to support all events stakeholders and team members
  2. Oversee all aspects of event operations, from initial concept to final cleanup
  3. Ensure that the logistics arrangement and setup for each event meets SCMP's standards

In this role, you will: 

  • Communicate and manage designers, vendors, service providers, temporary staffs and venue owners during all phases of the events projects
  • Manage budgets and expenses for each event to ensure profitability
  • Ensure that all team members (including freelance and temp staffs) are properly briefed to carry out their event specific tasks on day-of event
  • Manage multiple projects simultaneously to ensure that deadlines are met
  • Act as key support to sales, marketing and programme function by ensuring logistics requirements are met before and during the event
  • Oversee event setup and breakdown to ensure that the event proceeds smoothly and efficiently
  • Manage vendors and contractors to ensure that they meet all contractual obligations and deadlines


Skills and Experience that will lead to success:

  • Relevant university degree; candidate with lower qualifications but more years of working experience will be considered
  • 6-8 years of working experience, with strong track record in events agencies; experience on brand side is a good-to-have but not critical, we will provide on-the-job coaching for the right candidate
  • Strong experience working with teams comprising of professionals from different disciplines in a fast-paced environment
  • Hands-on experience in working on virtual and hybrid events, must be able to demonstrate technical know-hows and provide examples 
  • Hands-on experience in managing all aspects of event logistics and operations, from planning to development to execution
  • Able to excel in a fast-paced, hands-on working environment moving quickly from ideation to execution. Our business moves fast week to week.
  • Possess excellent leadership skills with problem-solving abilities, able to prioritise decision-making and allocate workloads and tasks
  • Extremely resourceful and able to think quickly on your feet, able to maintain a calm composure in stressful situations
  • Team player with the ability to adapt approach across a diverse base of stakeholders. Our team is small but effective; each team member brings to the table specific skills and experiences to complement one and another, and we believe one plus one is always more than two.
  • Strong English communication skills, both verbal communication and copywriting. We work with many different people inside and outside of the Events team, and it is imperative that you enjoy engaging with others so be prepared for cross-functional collaboration
  • Proficient in Google Workspace and comfortable thriving in a hybrid office environment. With the pandemic factor still looming large, we work where and when we have to, and know when to switch off to rest and recharge
 

Work location will be at Causeway Bay office.
