Chief Production Editor (Specialist Publications)

About the Team: 

South China Morning Post (SCMP) is looking for a skilled and experienced Chief Production Editor to enhance the production of content for the Specialist Publications department, a lifestyle content division focused on culture, fashion, F&B, travel and more. 

Purpose of the Position:

The Chief Production Editor is responsible for overseeing the production of content  for the Specialist Publications department. You will manage editorial processes, ensure high-quality output, coordinate with writers and designers, and align content with the publication's strategic goals. Additionally, the Chief Production Editor will be involved in setting deadlines and maintaining editorial standards to enhance audience engagement and brand identity.

In this role, you will: 

• Oversee the entire production process for the Specialist Publications team, ensuring timely and high-quality output.
• Collaborate with writers, designers, and other stakeholders to develop innovative content strategies.
• Edit and review written materials for clarity, style, accuracy, and adherence to editorial guidelines.
• Manage editorial calendars, deadlines, and workflows to streamline production.
• Maintain a strong understanding of industry trends and audience preferences to drive content relevance.
• Mentor and support junior editors and writers, fostering a collaborative team environment.
• Analyse performance metrics to assess content effectiveness and make data-driven improvements.
• Ensure compliance with copyright laws and ethical standards in publishing.

Skills and Experience that will lead to success:

• Bachelor’s degree in Journalism, Communications, or a related field; advanced degree preferred.
• A minimum of five years of experience as a sub-editor
• Strong leadership and management skills, with a track record of effective team collaboration.
• Exceptional writing, editing, and communication skills.
• Proficient in content management systems and digital publishing tools.
• Ability to work under tight deadlines and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
• A keen eye for detail and a passion for storytelling.

Work location will be in Hong Kong.
