Purpose of the Position:

SCMP takes pride in its dual role as Hong Kong's newspaper of record and a trusted global source of quality news and insights on China and Asia. In this role under the Commercial team, you will play a pivotal role in shaping and executing our social media strategy to deepen our Hong Kong readership and broaden our global premium readership to drive our next phase of growth.

Working closely with Editorial, you will oversee a portfolio of social media pages owned by SCMP across multiple social platforms e.g Facebook, Instagram, Youtube, Twitter (X), Linkedin, etc with a primary focus to drive growth across end-to-end customer journey. This role requires a deep understanding of the news industry, social media platforms, content strategies, reader journey and data analytics.

In this role, you will: 

Develop and Execute Social Media Strategy:

  • Create and implement a comprehensive social media strategy aligned with the company's mission and objectives.
  • Identify target audience segments and design content strategies to engage and expand these audiences.
  • Stay abreast of industry trends, competitor activities, and audience preferences to inform strategy development.

Content Planning and Creation:

  • Collaborate with the editorial team to develop compelling and timely social media content and amplify news stories, including news updates, features, and multimedia assets.
  • Ensure content adheres to brand guidelines, maintains an authoritative tone, and resonates with our audience.
  • Monitor content performance and leverage data-driven insights to optimize content strategy.
Social Media Management:
  • Oversee a portfolio of social media pages owned by the company, such as Facebook, Twitter (X), Instagram, LinkedIn, and YouTube.
  • Maintain consistent brand representation across all channels and ensure content is timely, accurate, and engaging.
  • Develop and manage a content calendar to ensure regular and strategic postings.

Analytics and Reporting:

  • Track and analyze social media performance metrics, including reach, engagement, conversions, and revenue generation.
  • Generate regular reports and present insights to stakeholders, identifying opportunities for growth and improvement.
  • Utilize social listening tools to monitor trends, brand sentiment, and emerging issues.

Skills and Experience that will lead to success:

  • Bachelor's degree in journalism, communications, marketing, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 7+ years of experience in social media management or strategy development within the news industry or a related field.
  • Proven track record of developing and implementing successful social media strategies for a reputable brand
  • Deep understanding of social media analytics and ability to derive actionable insights from data to optimize strategy.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to convey news stories effectively and maintain an authoritative voice.
  • Proficiency in social media management tools, content creation tools, and analytics platforms.
  • Up-to-date knowledge of social media trends, algorithms, and best practices in the news industry.
  • Strong collaboration and partnership skills, with the ability to work effectively with editorial and business teams.
  • Strong understanding of the customer journey and experience in developing strategies that engage customers at different funnel stages.
  • Creative thinking and problem-solving abilities.

Work location will be at Causeway Bay office.
