China Sales Director - Based in Hong Kong, SAR
About the Team:
South China Morning Post seeks a world-class sales leader to develop and expand our advertising business. You will join our dynamic Sales Team in Hong Kong and strengthen our partnerships with Mainland Chinese companies across Mainland China, Hong Kong, and Southeast Asia.
Purpose of the Position:
The primary purpose of this role is to identify business opportunities and partnerships with major Chinese brand advertisers and their agencies in markets outside of China, which contribute to our global growth.
The successful candidate will report to the COO and be a solutions-oriented sales leader with exceptional sales and business development expertise. They will be effective communicators and have a proven ability to collaborate with their peers to set strategies and execute them to get results.
The successful candidate will act as the South China Morning Post's brand ambassador. They will help Chinese companies understand how to connect with their current and future customers through the range of solutions within the SCMP portfolio.
In this role, you will:
- Foster trusted relationships with Chinese clients through high-quality engagement activities like events, training, quarterly reviews, and consultative meetings.
- Understand clients’ marketing and communications strategies, objectives, and KPIs and the best way to foster success with the SCMP offerings. Identify and eliminate challenges through this relationship-building process.
- Proactively drive revenue and results, identify areas of growth opportunity for the business, team, and our clients, and leverage your insights into the Chinese market and its dynamics.
- Collaborate closely with Ad Planning/ Content/ Campaign Management teams to provide optimum solutions to clients and agencies.
- Enhance the overall client experience by delivering exceptional service, ensuring clients choose SCMP for our products and partnership.
- Stay informed about industry trends, the competitive landscape, and emerging opportunities in media and advertising.
Skills and Experience that will lead to success:
- Ten years+ of Business Development and Sales Management experience in Media and Advertising, with in-depth knowledge of the ad tech industry and B2C/B2B marketing.
- Deep understanding of the global expansion needs of Chinese companies and a strong network within the Chinese marketing industry.
- Expertise in commercial content and selling content solutions, along with experience in the digital media and online advertising sectors.
- Proven track record of generating new business and achieving significant revenue growth.
- Strong relationships with brands and marketers in China and Chinese brands outside of China.
- Experience collaborating with internal and external Senior Executives across a large organization in China
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong planning, organizational, and prioritization skills, with the ability to thrive under pressure.
- Mandarin and English, both spoken and written, are mandatory. Cantonese is a plus.
The working location will be at the Hong Kong office.
