Purpose of the position: 

We are seeking a user-first, data-curious Product Management Intern to come work with our Product team for 2-3 months. During the internship, you will gain hands-on experience in understanding our readers, uncovering friction points and data insights on their behavior onsite. You will work with design and engineering teams to explore new ways to grow reader loyalty and discovery on SCMP.com and our apps. 


In this role, you will: 
This will be an opportunity to take ownership of a discrete project, and be paired with a senior member of the Product team who will be your mentor and day-to-day supervisor. At the end of the internship, you will present to the team your recommendation on how we might solve a specific user problem (e.g. how to help readers to find articles they’re interested in faster, or how we might clarify pricing and subscription plans for users), sharing user research, analysis, and a recommended solution.

You will also shadow and support senior product managers on other initiatives, for instance in doing competitive research on personalisation strategies in onboarding, or analysing recent subscriber complaints and breaking down into actionable insights for the team.

We are looking for current university students (e.g. final year) or recent graduates, who are deeply interested in pursuing a career in product management to solve problems by combining technology, great design, and empathy for the user.
 

Skills and Experience that will lead to success:

  • A genuine passion for understanding and solving user problems, coupled with an appreciation for great user experience (UX).
  • Data fluency  with the ability to work independently to analyze data trends and patterns across different audiences, platforms, or time periods, and the curiosity to ask questions and look one level deeper.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills in English. Cantonese or Putonghua would be a plus.
  • Interest or experience in utilizing AI technologies to improve the reading experience for users (eg by improving content recommendations or personalisation subscription recommendations. 
  • Previous internship/work experience in consumer products, media, or technology start-ups would be ideal but not mandatory.
 

Work location will be at Causeway Bay office.
